Lancaster’s WIC on Wheels program is making a difference in the community by giving WIC (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children) access to those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to utilize the services it provides.
“Pockets of rural areas in the greater Lancaster area have no public transportation, which makes it difficult for people to travel to the city. As a result, the brick and mortar Lancaster WIC Clinic sees only a portion of the eligible population, even though a large number of residents in the county qualify for WIC services.” – Joseph Terranova for Bread for the World
For those who don’t have access to transportation, this mobile clinic has been a game-changer since its launch in November of 2015, reaching rural areas such as: New Holland, Elizabethtown, Manheim and Paradise/Gap.
